Welcome Letter, Principal

To the Community of Amani Public Charter School,

Whether you are a returning family or new to our school community, I extend a warm greeting to you and your child. We are glad you are here! It is with great honor and joy that I serve the Amani Community as Principal.

Being committed to Amani’s vision of ridiculously great teaching, rigorous instruction, and a strong school culture means that the quality of teaching and learning at Amani is my top priority. Our instruction will be student centered and allow students to actively shape and take ownership of their learning.

All students deserve the best educational care. This requires heart, growth mindset and actionable practices of equity. It is our responsibility as educators, whom you entrust your child to, to provide research based practices, resources, and opportunities to all students.

Amani Principal, Jennifer Ciavirella

Understanding that the success of students depends on the collaboration between school and home, I have a small request for parents and guardians. Volunteering, joining the PTA, communicating with teachers, and attending school events are certainly encouraged, but the real work I ask of you is to continue talking with your child about the importance of kindness.

So as the school year commences, I would like to kindly request the assistance of parents and guardians. Please take a few moments to engage in a conversation with your child about the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. It is essential to communicate that there is never a justification for making fun of someone based on their height, weight, skin color, home life, or interests.

Additionally, please remind your child to be inclusive of all peers, regardless of their differences. Highlight that teasing can be harmful and that our primary focus in school should be on learning and fostering a positive environment. Some children may not return to supportive homes, making it all the more crucial to practice empathy and understanding.

The foundation of kindness and empathy begins at home. Your guidance is invaluable in creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all students. Thank you for your continued support.

Lastly, a reminder to families to please read the newsletter that comes out each week. This contains important information from the school and will hopefully facilitate and support parent involvement and engagement.

Wishing you all a healthy and positive school year!

With gratitude,
Ms. Jennifer Ciavirella
