Since inception Amani has maintained an active Parent Teachers Association. PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Its mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
Lutitia Matthias, PTA President, is a mother of four children; the youngest attends Amani and is in the 8th grade. She holds a Masters Degree in Communication and will bring value to this PTA role by focusing on parent engagement, open communication, fundraising, and supporting our wonderful teachers and staff at Amani. Inclusivity will ensure that all voices are represented and that events are accessible to every family, fostering a sense of belonging.
Shaundell Wharton, PTA Vice President, has three children and she is an entrepreneur running her own small business. She has a long-held dedication to improving educational opportunities for young people. Ms. Wharton says, “Being a part of Amani’s PTA brings me great pleasure. We’re helping to build our school community in the best way.”
Marina Distant Williams, PTA Secretary, is a mom to three – Maiya, a senior at Ursuline Academy, Myles, a 7th grader at Amani, and Maxwell, a 6th grader at Amani. She is a pharmacist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, an avid reader, traveler and she is passionate about quality education for our children.
