Special Education
Special Education Program
Amani Public Charter School provides a full continuum of services for students with disabilities. The programs provided are determined by Mount Vernon’s Committee on Special Education (“CSE”) recommendations. The CSE determines eligibility and develops the Individualized Education Plan (“IEP”) and recommends programs for students based on individual student needs. Amani Public Charter School is committed to creating alignment for each CSE recommendation.
Integrated Co-Teaching Services (ICT)
Students with disabilities who receive ICT are taught along with with age appropriate peers in the general education classroom. ICT provides access to the general education curriculum and specially designed instruction to meet students’ individual needs.
Direct Consultant Teacher Services (CTS) Specially designed individualized instruction provided by a certified special education teacher to a student with a disability to support that student in their general education classes. Services are given 2 hours a week.
Indirect Consultant Teacher Services (CTS) Consultation provided by a certified special education teacher to a general education teacher(s) to assist them in adjusting the learning environment and/or modifying their instructional methods to meet the individual needs of a student with a disability who attends their classes.
Resource Room (RR)
A separate, remedial classroom in the school where students with educational disabilities, such as specific learning disabilites, are pulled out of their general education classroom and are given direct, specialized instruction and academic remediation in groups.
“Self-contained classroom”
This is a classroom in which a special education teacher is responsible for the instruction of all academic subjects. The classroom is typically separated from general education classrooms but within the school building. *This class is populated based on each students’ IEP*.
Related Services:
Speech/Language Services (Speech) is a related service listed on the Individual Education Plan (IEP). These services are delivered by a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist according to the mandates on the students’ IEP.
Counseling is a related service listed on the Individual Education Plan (IEP). These services are delivered by the school Social Worker according to the mandates on the students’ IEP.
Occupational Therapy Services (OT) is a related service listed on the Individual Education Plan (IEP). These services are delivered by a licensed Occupational Therapist according to the mandates on the students’ IEP.
Physical Therapy Services (PT) is a related service listed on the Individual Education Plan (IEP). These services are delivered by a licensed Physical Therapist according to the mandates on the students’ IEP.
